Test Case Extractor crashes when selecting a Test Plan

description

I just downloaded Test Case Extractor which seems like a great tool and I was able to successfully connect to my TFS server, but whenever I attempt to select a Test Plan from the "Select a Test Plan" dropdown (which is populated with all the Test Plans from MTM), Test Case Extractor crashes and I get a message stating "Test_Case_Extractor has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex Bernauer

Same issue here. Using VS/MTM 2012 SP2.

Anyone know of a work around?

Idem with VS/MTM 2012 Update 3.

I also see the same issue with Windows 7 Enterprise, VS Ultimate installed with update 3. Have tried the Compatibility troubleshooter using XP SP2 and SP3 to connect to TFS 2008 projects but still no go. I do notice that if attaching to a TFS 2010 or TFS 2012 server it doesn't crash. It just doesn't display any info in the ddl, though that may be because no Test Plan was found in the team project.

So I believe I've found the solution to this.

Make sure you have Visual Studio 2010 installed. This fixed the issue for me.

It made sense since I couldn't even open up the source code in VS 2012 for editing.

I think this is because this installation is set up using the TFS 2010 sdk dll's. I pulled the source and swapped out the references to be the 2012 ones and everything worked fine.

receiving same error. Please advise on a resolution for Visual Studio Ultimate 2012, OS=Windows server 2012

I am not a developer so the solution to make it work in TFS 2012 is not one I am sure I can accomplish. Can you please detail about swapping out the reference to make it work? Or do you know if anyone has made this coded for TFS 2012?

Any details or help is appreciated.
